Five Highlights from the 2022 Goldman Environmental Prize

December 13, 2022

As 2022 concludes, we reflect on what a year it has been! Join us in celebrating some key moments at the Goldman Environmental Prize this year.

1. The 2022 Prize Winner Announcement

The Goldman Prize was thrilled to welcome the 2022 winners: Chima Williams, Niwat Roykaew, Marjan Minnesma, Julien Vincent, Nalleli Cobo, and Alex Lucitante and Alexandra Narvaez. Each individual reminded us of the power of community, perseverance, and passion in the fight to regenerate and restore our planet.

2. A Star-studded Award Ceremony

The 2022 Goldman Prize winners were celebrated in a virtual award ceremony on May 25. The event was hosted by Jane Fonda, narrated by Sigourney Weaver, and featured renowned conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall and performances by AngĂ©lique Kidjo and the Detroit Youth Choir.

3. Supporting Grassroots Communities

The Goldman Prize continued to work with past Prize winners and their organizations on ongoing work in their communities. Our 2022 grantmaking program funded 16 projects, supporting critical work such as sustainable fishery management, community-based wildlife protection, and Indigenous-led conservation.

4. Connecting with Prize Winners around the Globe

Through our Prize Winners Today blog series, we shared the stories of Goldman Prize winners who continue to advocate on the frontlines for their communities and ecosystems.

5. Prize Winners Make Global Headlines

Goldman Prize winners continue to drive environmental progress locally and internationally. Notable moments include the election of 2018 Prize winner Francia Márquez as vice president of Colombia, the recognition of Nalleli Cobo (United States, 2022) as a TIME 100 Leader, and many more.

We look forward to another exciting year ahead, as we continue to uplift the stories of grassroots environmental leaders! Thank you for being part of our global community.
