Goldman Prize Recipients Unite for 2013 Green Asia Forum

September 17, 2013

The second annual Green Asia Forum took place in Busan, South Korea earlier this month with several Goldman Prize recipients in attendance.

The theme and focus of this year’s forum was, “Climate Change and Marine Environments in Asia: Seeking Mitigation Strategies.”

Goldman Prize winners in attendance included Von Hernandez, 2003 winner from the Philippines; Rizwana Hasan, 2009 winner from Bangladesh; and Dmitry Lisitsyn, 2011 winner from Russia.

1995 Goldman Prize recipient Yul Choi is the president of the Korea Green Foundation, the forum’s main sponsor.

Eight Goldman Prize recipients attended the inaugural Green Asia Forum in 2012, and together they released a joint statement, which outlined the common goals for the forum:

1.      Support for the development and implementation of sustainable energy in order to move towards a denuclearized future

2.      Work towards a collective solution for climate change

3.      Pursue use of fair water sources to protect the marine and freshwater ecosystems

4.      Conservation and protection of forests and biodiversity

5.      Promotion and aid for environmental education

6.      Watch out and find solutions for environmentally destructive actions of transnational corporations

7.      Work on and provide support for local movements related to environmental issues or food safety
