Today, National Geographic announced the names of the fourteen 2010 Emerging Explorers, including 2008 Goldman Prize recipient from Mozambique, Felicano dos Santos. The Emerging Explorers program "recognizes and supports uniquely gifted and inspiring adventurers, scientists, photographers, and storytellers making a significant contribution to world knowledge through exploration."

Feliciano dos Santos won the Goldman Prize for his work in bringing sanitation infrastructure to rural Mozambique through a combination of outreach via his popular band, Massukos, and on-the-ground sustainable development with his organization, ESTAMOS.

Focusing on access to clean water to prevent disease, dos Santos and his team have changed the face of much of rural Mozambique, which has been widely recognized as one of the poorest regions of the world. As an Emerging Explorer, dos Santos will receive an award of $10,000 to support his work and additional international recognition.
