The Washington, DC Goldman Prize ceremony took place last night at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Every seat in the house was full as Dr. Cristián Samper, the museum's director, welcomed an enthusiastic audience. Local NBC news anchor, Barbara Harrison, hosted the event as she has done for many years.
The festivities continued as Prize winners enjoyed a lunch meeting at the Capitol with 20 members of Congress, including Representative Nancy Pelosi. The Capitol luncheon is a highlight of the Prize tour, where recipients have a chance to share their stories face to face with some of the world's most well-known political leaders.
