The 13th Annual Healthy Foods, Local Farms Conference took place on Saturday, October 13th in Louisville, Kentucky. Coming just days before World Food Day (October 16) and in observance of the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, this year’s conference was focused on water and water quality issues.

The event’s keynote speaker was 2010 Goldman Prize recipient Lynn Henning, a farmer in rural Michigan who learned firsthand about the importance of clean and healthy groundwater when she discovered that hers’ was being polluted by nearby concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

According to their website, the Healthy Foods, Local Farms Conference is for ‘people and organizations that care about where their food comes from and that their daily repast is ethically and sustainably raised/grown and harvested.’
